USB-C has become the universal charging standard, but the wattage numbers on chargers create a lot of confusion. Here's what you actually need.

Phone Charging: 18-30W

Most modern smartphones charge optimally at 18-25W. A 30W charger will charge an iPhone 15 or Samsung Galaxy S24 to 50% in about 30 minutes. Going higher than 30W won't charge your phone faster — the device limits incoming power.

Tablet Charging: 30-45W

iPads and Android tablets benefit from 30-45W chargers. An iPad Pro charges significantly faster with a 30W+ charger compared to the standard 20W brick included in the box.

Laptop Charging: 45-100W

This is where wattage really matters. A 13-inch MacBook Air needs at least 30W, but charges faster at 45W. A 15-inch laptop typically requires 65-100W for full-speed charging. Using a charger below the minimum means your battery drains even while plugged in during heavy use.

Multi-Device Charging

If you're charging a phone and laptop simultaneously from a dual-port charger, the total wattage is split between ports. A 100W dual-port charger might deliver 65W to one port and 35W to the other — check the product specs for exact split ratios.

Cable Matters Too

A 100W charger won't deliver 100W through a cable rated for 60W. Look for cables with E-marker chips (required for 100W+) and check the wattage rating on the cable packaging. Our nylon-braided USB-C cables are rated for their full advertised wattage.
