Wireless charging has improved significantly, but there are real trade-offs compared to wired charging. Here's what our testing showed.
Speed
Wired charging still wins on raw speed. A 30W USB-C charger fills a phone battery in about 60 minutes. A 15W wireless pad takes roughly 2.5 hours for the same phone. If speed is your priority — especially for quick top-ups — wired is the way to go.
Heat
Wireless charging generates more heat because energy is transferred through induction rather than a direct connection. This heat can slightly reduce battery lifespan over years of use. Wired charging runs cooler, especially with GaN chargers that manage heat efficiently.
Convenience
This is where wireless wins. Dropping your phone on a pad at your desk or nightstand is effortless — no fumbling with cables in the dark. For overnight charging or desk-top trickle charging, wireless is genuinely more convenient.
Our Recommendation
Use both. A wireless charging pad on your nightstand for overnight charging, and a wired USB-C charger in your bag for fast top-ups during the day. This gives you convenience when speed doesn't matter and speed when it does.
